Right angle drawer slide attachment?

This set of 250kg drawer slides can be mounted at an angle of 90° on the floor or on the ceiling using our floor brackets BS1B-UNI-1. These are not included as standard with the drawer guides and must be added separately to the shopping cart.

The brackets are designed in such a way that you have the choice of having the lip protrude under the drawer or on the side of the drawer. The fasteners are compact, so no threaded end protrudes from the outside. You can even attach two drawer guides to both sides of one bracket. Ideal for several drawers next to each other in, for example, a camper or commercial vehicle!

The floor brackets also contribute to ease of work. Even professionals, who could also screw the drawer slides directly to the inner walls of a cabinet, choose our floor brackets for the following reason; Adjusting the drawer guides is, as you can read under the ‘Assembly’ heading, a difficult and precise job. The space between the casing and the drawer may deviate minimally from the regulations and the mounting position on both side walls must also be aligned with each other. It takes a lot of frustration and time to get this done. However, you can save this by using our floor brackets. You mount the drawer and the floor brackets to the guides and then place the whole thing in the casing. After sliding the drawer open and closed once, the guides are properly aligned with each other and all you have to do is screw the brackets to the bottom. Ideal!

Installing a drawer or platform?

You can screw or bolt the inner profile of the drawer guides directly to the side of a drawer. However, there are situations in which our aluminum drawer brackets BS1B-UNI-2 are desirable. These corner profiles support the drawer, which relieves the load on the drawer wall and can therefore be made of a thinner material. You could even leave out the side walls, creating an extendable platform between the guides. Apart from the extra options, the brackets also contribute to the adjustment. After all, you do not have to screw both guides to a drawer wall at an identical height. After mounting the brackets, simply place the drawer on the brackets and screw it into place. It couldn’t be easier!

Open and close position lock?

These Heavy Duty drawer slides include a locking feature, allowing the drawer to be held securely in both the closed and open positions. This function is intended to prevent unwanted movements, for example in a commercial vehicle while driving, or for an extendable kitchen unit in a camper.

We can supply these 250kg guides with or without locking. If you use the standard heavy duty version, the drawer will fall open if it tilts downwards. If you choose the variant with lock, this is not possible. The drawer guides are secured in both the open and closed positions. The blue locks of this set of drawer guides are mirrored in relation to each other. This means you don’t have to push one lever up and one down to open the drawer, but both locks point in the same direction. It does not matter whether you install the drawer slides with the locks facing up or down. Apart from these locks, the guides contain no differences. There is no left or right variant.

How much weight can a drawer carry with these runners?

One set of these drawer slides can carry 250kg. This applies in both the retracted and extended position and if the weight is evenly distributed over the length. If the weight is only placed deep in the drawer, these guides can carry approximately 115% = 285 kg. The maximum point load at the front of the drawer is close to 70% = 175kg. Don’t forget to include the own weight of the drawer in your weight calculation. If necessary, place dividers in the drawer to ensure that heavy contents cannot slide forward. This benefits the drawer guides. You can also choose not to let the drawer guides extend to their maximum extent, but to stop the movement earlier. This limits the arm’s protruding weight, meaning that the guides can handle a greater load compared to maximum extension.

Horizontal or vertical use of the drawer guides?

The previously mentioned loads apply if you use the drawer guides as standard (vertically), or in other words, mount them against side walls. You can also attach the drawer guides flat (horizontally) under the drawer, but this has negative consequences for the maximum load and deflection. The maximum weight that can be carried decreases by 60% and the front of the drawer will bend a few centimeters instead of millimeters when extended, assuming the same weight.

In addition, the drawer will not automatically fall into its lock when extended. This can still be done manually by pushing a hinged part in the drawer guide (just behind the extended drawer). Lock-IN will continue to work properly when flat.

But now there is an even bigger disadvantage that is often not thought about. A flat-mounted drawer slide is very sensitive to dirt. When the drawer opens, the middle and largest profile is exposed as a kind of elongated and greased tray. The ball cage between the middle and largest profile is also exposed to, for example, blowing sand. If it remains just a little sand, these drawer slides with exceptionally large 8mm balls will continue to work, but the movement will not become any smoother.

Adjusting drawer slides is a difficult job. The conductors must not be twisted relative to each other. They must also not be placed under tension between the drawer and the casing. Tension arises when the parts of the conductors (in thickness direction) are pulled apart or pushed together. It is therefore important to make the space between the drawer and the side walls of the casing exactly the same as the thickness (19.1 mm) of these guides. The more this size deviates, the higher loads the conductors will experience and the heavier the movement will be. The spacing is within the regulations if it is a minimum of 19.1 and a maximum of 19.8 mm. However, the closer to 19.1mm, the more stable the tray. In other words; A drawer with spacings of 19.8mm will be able to move more (unwanted) laterally when extended than if the spacings are 19.1mm. To achieve this adjustment as best as possible, I recommend not screwing, gluing or bolting one side wall of the casing (or drawer) until the drawer is attached between it. The side wall still has the option to make a small sideways movement, if necessary for perfect adjustment. Furthermore, it is important that both guides tap the back stop at the same time when the drawer is closed. The front sides of both conductors must therefore be aligned with each other. A hard blow when closing the drawer can be prevented by ensuring that the drawer guides reach the plastic back stops before the front of the drawer touches the casing. When closed, keep a little space (+2mm) between the front of the drawer and the casing. If your drawer is slightly longer than the length of the drawer runners, I recommend attaching the runners as far as possible towards the front of the drawer. This small detail means that the drawer can bear a heavier load and will bend less than if you were to mount the guides deeper in the casing, i.e. further from the front of the drawer.

Light drawer slides (not 250kg variants) can often be divided into two parts. In this way you can easily screw one part of the drawer guide against the side of the drawer and the other part against the inner wall of the casing. You can then carefully slide the drawer into the casing, after which the guides lock themselves back into place. This is not the case with these 250kg variants. These are designed for high loads and the division option is not sufficiently robust. You must first mount these guides against the inside of the casing. Then slide the guides completely out and mount the drawer between them. The mounting holes have a diameter of 7.6 mm on the casing side and 5.2 mm on the drawer side. Use bolts or screws with a low or countersunk head. If you choose the latter option, use a small wire diameter, so that the countersunk head partly disappears into the hole. If you don't take this into account, the heads may get in the way when moving the tray. Before you start mounting, check whether the selected screw or bolt is suitable.

Good luck!
