How much weight can a drawer with these runners carry?

One set of these drawer runners can carry 40kg. This applies in both retracted and extended positions and if the weight is evenly distributed over the length. If the weight is only going to be placed deep in the drawer, these runners can carry approximately 45kg. The maximum point load at the front of the drawer is around 30kg. Don’t forget to include the drawer’s own weight in your weight calculation. If necessary, place partitions in the drawer to ensure that heavy contents cannot slide forward. This benefits the drawer runners.

Horizontal or vertical use of the drawer runners?

The loads mentioned above apply if you use the drawer runners vertically (standard), i.e. mount them against side walls. Soft-close drawer runners cannot be used horizontally (flat). The drawer runners are then, as it were, pressed together, which means that the catch plate of the soft-close system will no longer grip the protruding pin in the middle and it will break. For the same reason, it is important to keep the distance between the casing and the drawer between 13 and 13.3 mm.

What does 3-piece extension mean?

There are 2-piece and 3-piece drawer runners. The difference lies in the degree of extension of the runners. Drawers fitted with 2-piece drawer runners are partially extendable, while drawers fitted with 3-piece drawer runners can be slid completely outside the casing. Fully extendable. This makes it easy to reach into the back of the drawer. Our range only contains the most user-friendly version; the 3-piece drawer runners.

Difference between roller runner and ball runner?

A roller runner is a runner with rollers (wheels) that roll back and forth in a guide rail. A ball runner moves by means of many small balls in a so-called ball cage (ball bearings). As a result, a ball runner always ensures a tight, smooth, silent and precise movement. Ball runners, unlike roller runners, can also absorb horizontal loads (from the side). The balls fix the drawer from all sides so that it cannot bounce up and down, for example in a camper. Because BRASOM attaches great importance to quality, our range only contains premium ball bearing guides.

What is a soft-close drawer guide?

A soft-close drawer guide has an integrated system that dampens the last 60 mm of the push and allows it to happen automatically. This means that the drawer always closes completely and there is no audible bang when the drawer is slammed shut. Furthermore, the system prevents the drawer from falling open unintentionally. You do not have to use too much force to open the drawer for this 40 kg variant. In moving vehicles, this has the disadvantage that a filled drawer can fly open in a sporty bend. This is only the case if you mount the drawer perpendicular to the length of the vehicle. You will not experience this problem if you place these runners in line with the vehicle. The tightness lock is strong enough in that case.

Mounting our 40kg drawer runners

Adjusting drawer runners is a tricky job. The runners must not be twisted in relation to each other. They must also not be under tension between the drawer and the casing. Tension occurs when the parts of the runners (in thickness direction) are pulled apart or pushed together. It is therefore important to keep the space between the drawer and the side walls of the casing between 13 and 13.3 mm. The more this measurement deviates from this, the higher the loads the guides will experience and the heavier the movement will be.

To achieve this adjustment as well as possible, I recommend that you only screw, glue or bolt one side wall of the casing (or drawer) when the drawer is attached in between. The side wall then still has the possibility to make a small lateral movement, if this is necessary for perfect adjustment. Furthermore, it is important that both guides enter the soft-close system at the same time when the drawer is closed. If this does not happen, only one of the two soft-close systems will absorb the impact. The fronts of both guides must therefore be in line with each other. Also consider the following. Personally, I think it is neater if you create a situation in which the soft-close systems retract the guides all the way to the stop. This happens if you do not let the front of the drawer come into contact with the casing. To be clear; it is not a must. If your drawer is slightly longer than the length of the drawer runners, I recommend mounting the runners as far towards the front of the drawer as possible. This small detail allows the drawer to be loaded more heavily and will bend less than if you were to mount the runners deeper in the casing, i.e. further from the front of the drawer.

These 40kg drawer runners can be divided into two parts: Pull the drawer runner out as far as possible. A plastic pin will then appear at the bottom. Push the pin to the side and simultaneously pull the runner out further. Make sure that you pull the parts apart lengthwise. Do not accidentally apply force to the side during the last pull-out movement. This will damage the ball cage and may cause balls to come loose (a few missing balls are not a big problem). You have divided the runner into two parts. Now you can easily attach the inner part of the drawer runner to the side of the drawer and the other part to the inner wall of the casing. Only tighten the screws or bolts that you cannot reach later when the guide parts are put back together. Check in advance which ones these are. Do not tighten the others hard yet. So make sure that the guides can still be moved with some effort. Then pull both ball cages towards you (up to the front stops) and carefully and as straight as possible slide the drawer between them. Be careful that the inner parts of the drawer guides, attached to the drawer, do not damage the vulnerable ball cages. Once the drawer is between the ball cages of both drawer guides, you can push it all the way in (with some resistance). The guides will then secure themselves again and start to move smoothly again. If they do not move smoothly, something is under tension. Because you have not tightened most of the fasteners hard, you can still position the guides in relation to each other. Once you have managed to make the movement run smoothly, you can tighten everything. If you want to remove the drawer from the casing again, you must use the plastic pins. Because the drawer runners are identical, you will have to push the pin of one runner up and the pin of the other down. After all, you have mounted them in mirror image. The mounting holes have a diameter of 4.5 mm. Use bolts or screws with a low or countersunk head. If you choose the latter option, use a thread diameter of maximum 4 mm so that the countersunk head partially falls into the hole. If you do not take this into account, it is possible that the heads will get in the way when moving the drawer. Before you start mounting, check whether the selected screw or bolt is sufficient.

Good luck!
